Sunday Evening Update
It has been a seasonable Sunday here in Southwest and Central Virginia, but we are still keeping a close eye on Hurricane Erin.
This most recent satellite view shows no eye in Erin because it has become so strong that the storm is now going through an eyewall replacement cycle. This is what happens when the eyewall becomes maximum strength and is so strong that it forms a new eye. This new eye will likely be stronger than the last.
While the hurricane poses no threat to land here in the U.S, it will create deadly rip currents along the coast.
Hurricane Erin will likely strengthen back to a Category 4 by early Monday morning.
Closer to home, this week will bring another active pattern! Tonight, a few stray showers are possible, but as we head towards mid-week, rain chances increase as temperatures fall.
Sunday Morning Update
We’re approaching temperatures in the low to mid 90s today, making for one scorcher of a day.
We’ll see lots of sunshine today to accompany the heat and humidity, making it easy for us to heat up.
There is an isolated chance for a storm later in the day, but most of us will be completely dry.
Rain chances really ramp up in the coming days, with widespread showers and thunderstorms expected by the middle parts of the week.
Meanwhile, in the tropics, Erin is still churning as a Category 3 storm, expected to regain strength into a Category 4 within the next day or two. This storm poses no threat to us, but it will create deadly rip currents along the beaches.
