The victims were David S. Compo, the former president of the Home Builders Association of Southeastern Michigan, his wife Michele and their son Dawson, the association said in a news release. The family was returning home to Michigan from Georgia, according to the association. His mother, Janet Compo, served as its president in 1995. Michael Stoskopf, HBA's CEO, remembered Compo for his contributions to the organization.

German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas said he understood Greece’s unwillingness to engage in dialogue due to Turkey’s decision to again dispatch its ship. “And if there isn’t, then the European Union will have to face the question of how to deal with this and what consequences this will have,” Maas said. “It is one more provocation, in the continued provocations by the Turkish side,” Petsas said.

Those aboard the doomed flight included 82 Iranians, 63 Canadians and 11 Ukrainians, including the nine crew members. Ten passengers were from Sweden, four from Afghanistan, three from Germany and three from the United Kingdom. The protesters in Iran expressed anger at what they perceive as an initial cover-up. But U.S. intelligence officials had said earlier that evidence suggested that the plane was shot down by an Iranian missile by mistake, multiple officials said.
