Washington County Executive Josh Schoemann said that the coach had been feeling ill with symptoms of COVID-19 and went to his doctorโ€™s office for a test last Thursday. It was during the game that county contact tracers from the health department called the coach. โ€œHe got that phone call as he was walking onto the field or as he was on the field, and made the decision that he needed to be at that scrimmage,โ€ Schoemann says. When the Kewaskum Gridiron Youth Football league learned of the coachโ€™s diagnosis, they fired him immediately and looked at game film to see who he came into contact with.

It happened just before 7 p.m. on Saturday in Washington County on Route 19 (Porterfield Hwy) at Route 633 ( Black Hollow Road). There were four people in the Chrysler, including a 16-year-old boy from Abingdon who was taken to Johnston Memorial Hospital, where he later died from his injuries from the crash, according to Virginia State Police. The Chryslerโ€™s driver, a 33-year-old man of Abingdon, wasnโ€™t hurt in the crash, according to Virginia State Police. The Honda CR-Vโ€™s driver, Kayla Byrd, 35, of Abingdon, was taken to a nearby hospital with minor injuries, according to Virginia State Police.

PULASKI COUNTY, Va. โ€“ A missing 8-year-old boy was found in Pulaski County on Sunday after his mother reported him missing earlier that day. The woman also apparently told police that it wasnโ€™t until she reached Exit 24 in Washington County that she realized her son wasnโ€™t in the car with her. She couldnโ€™t describe where she used the restroom, according to Virginia State Police. Police immediately began an extensive search and notified other law enforcement agencies in the area from Augusta County to Washington County. At 7:05 p.m., the Pulaski County Sheriffโ€™s Office notified state police that the boy had been found and that he was safe.

- Authorities say an HIV-positive man has been charged with raping a boy on the Appalachian Trail in western Maryland. The Herald-Mail reports that 43-year-old Jason Henry Cochrane, of Millersville, is charged with sex abuse of a minor, second-degree rape and other counts in Washington County. Maryland Natural Resources Police said in court documents that officers were called Saturday morning to the Pine Knob Shelter on the Appalachian Trail near the border with Frederick County. Officers found Cochrane and an adolescent boy in a camping tent north of the shelter that contained condoms and sex toys. Police say DNA tests confirmed sexual contact and that Cochrane gave the boy crystal meth.
