City officials and first responders from across the Roanoke Valley made signs as a way to show their appreciation. They’ve been patient with the community and they have done an extraordinary job. A spot in the Liberty Bowl became available Monday when Tennessee became the first team to back out since bowl berths were announced. The change to its Liberty Bowl opponent was no problem for West Virginia (5-4). “Our team deserves to be in a bowl and so does the 9-2 Army squad,” West Virginia athletic director Shane Lyons said. Frankly, I think we were stunned to find out the opportunity would be in a bowl like the AutoZone Liberty Bowl.

ROANOKE, Va. – On Tuesday night American Red Cross volunteers in Roanoke were honored for their tireless dedication to the community. These volunteers have been manning blood drives, responding to natural disasters and helping in little ways too. Jackie Grant is the executive director of the local Red Cross Chapter and said sometimes recognition just can’t wait until next year. Many of the volunteers received awards for their service. All they had to do was open their cars and awards were put right in their back seats.
