As temperatures rise across the Lynchburg area, health experts say some residents face far greater danger than others — and local cooling centers are stepping up to help.

On Monday, Gov. Spanberger announced that Secretary of the U.S. Department of Agriculture Brooke Rollins officially issued a Secretarial Disaster Declaration for dozens of counties in response to the freezing temperatures that occurred in the late spring.

The weekend will feature heat and humidity, the chance for rain/storms, and some sunshine too. The REAL heat arrives for us next week.

Southwest and Central Virginia can expect a stretch of warm, mostly dry weather through Saturday, with some thunderstorms returning Sunday afternoon.

This morning, we have experienced some of the coolest temperatures that we will see all week! Thanks to a trough digging into the East Coast and a high-pressure system bringing in a Canadian air mass, we were on the cooler side this morning. We will quickly rebound tomorrow into the 80s as we shift to more seasonal temperatures.
