Improvements are underway on Snowshoe Mountain, just in time for colder weather. For the first time in nearly 20 years, a new lift is being installed.

Kinzie Dickman was a standout athlete until a car crash cost her the use of her legs. She dropped into depression until she discovered adaptive sports at Snowshoe Resort in West Virginia. With a bit of practice, she has once again found the freedom to fly down the slopes. And now she is taking the sport to a new level as she tries for a spot on the Paralympic team. Not only has she discovered the freedom of the wind in her face, but she has found something within herself as she instructs others how to follow her path.

Cold, dry air means snow-making can begin three weeks prior to season opener

SNOWSHOE, W.Va. – Skiers and snowboarders bundled up for the cold at Snowshoe Mountain, but the coronavirus pandemic means not everything could stay the same at the West Virginia resort. “We’re definitely missing a big chunk of our international workforce with the way things are right now,” Cassell said. SNOWSHOE, W. Va. – Skiers and snowboarders won’t take to the slopes at Snowshoe Mountain until December 4. The ski area was originally set to open on November 25, but Snowshoe officials said unseasonably mild temperatures combined with a lack of snowmaking opportunities led to the delay. Some of the snowiest winters we’ve ever had got off to a late start," said Duncan, in part. Snowshoe does still plan to open its mountaintop village on November 25. The village features restaurants, shopping and mountain adventure activities.

SNOWSHOE, W. Va. – With the snow no longer falling at Snowshoe Mountain the resort announced its modified plans for fall and summer. Starting June 18Golf - The Raven Golf Club will be open weekly, Thursday through Sunday. Starting July 2Resort Operations – Snowshoe’s mountaintop village will be open Thursday through Sunday for dining, retail and outdoor adventure operations.This includes the full-service Spa at Snowshoe. Shavers Lake & Scenic Lift Rides - Scenic lift rides to Shavers Lake will be available Thursday through Sunday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. The lake will be open for swimming, canoeing, kayaking, and paddle-boarding; however, to limit contact, the inflatable obstacle course will not be open.

ROANOKE, Va. - Fans of the cold and snow may very well have been refreshing the web page for Snowshoe Mountain's web cams last night and this morning. At 9 p.m. Wednesday, Snowshoe tweeted with excitement that they were seeing flakes! Cold and moist air rose up the mountain, allowing snow to develop. However, due to the wet and warm ground - not much was able to accumulate. Meanwhile, we deal with cooler air and gusty winds for the rest of the day Thursday before calming down Friday.

ROANOKE, Va. - The cold front moving through our area Wednesday may not just bring rain...at least to Snowshoe Mountain in West Virginia. Now, Snowshoe is no stranger to the white stuff, especially in an instance like late Wednesday. Any remnant moisture will be forced up the mountain, causing clouds to form and snow to fall. Just how much snow accumulates is in question, due to the fact that the ground will still be wet from Wednesday's rain. Regardless, Snowshoe shared in the excitement when I originally posted about the possibility of some snowflakes to my Facebook page.
