CAMPBELL COUNTY, Va. โ€“ Thereโ€™s a new step to giving animals a better chance at being adopted. A group in Campbell County thatโ€™s been advocating to build a new shelter for years created Bringing Animal Renovation to Campbell County (BARCC), a nonprofit to help with fundraising. The group believes the existing building isnโ€™t as inviting or big enough compared to other shelters in the area, and leaders presented their plan to the Campbell County Board of Supervisors last week. County leaders said a new shelter is in the capital improvement plan for about $800,000, but thatโ€™s still three years down the road. โ€œOne new animal being brought into the shelter should not jeopardize the life of another animal thatโ€™s already here just because of lack of space.

Amazing work thatโ€™s going on here,โ€ said Pittsylvania County Pet Center Director Brent Weinkauf.

SOUTHWEST VIRGINIA โ€“ Homeless shelters and soup kitchens are preparing for one of the busiest days of the year. The Roanoke Rescue Mission is offering two options: socially distanced indoor dining open to the community and drive-through curbside service where you can take your Thanksgiving meal to-go. โ€œA lot of our regular volunteers are seniors, theyโ€™re retired and high risk for a variety of reasons. At RAM House in Roanoke, volunteers like Pat Oberlin, are prepared to pack to-go Thanksgiving meals and snacks, homeless individuals will be allowed to eat indoors. โ€œYou can see it in their hearts that they really appreciate what weโ€™re doing here for them.โ€For these volunteers, Thanksgiving is about giving back at a time when people need help now more than ever.
