The Science Museum of Western Virginia is offering one free ticket for adults on Juneteenth!

The Science Museum of Western Virginia is celebrating the grand opening of the Eye Planetarium on Feb. 14.

An astronomical addition is coming to The Science Museum of Western Virginia that’s hoping to take Star City residents to infinity and beyond.

Students across Southwest Virginia got a taste of what it’s like to have a career in STEAM – science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics.

ROANOKE, Va. – The Science Museum of Western Virginia isn’t wasting any time when it comes to prepping the world’s future scientists. Registration is now available for The LAB Jr., where kids 3 to 5 years old can learn and practice their scientist skills. This is the younger version of The Lab, which the museum launched last summer for students grades K-5. The eight-week program starts Tuesday, April 6 if parents choose the Tuesday classes or Thursday, April 8 for the Thursday classes. Baako told 10 News as a staff, they saw a gap in early STEAM education.

ROANOKE, Va. – Valentine’s Day is quickly approaching, but if you’re not into the romance of the holiday, here’s another way you can celebrate. Once again, the Science Museum of Western Virginia in downtown Roanoke is giving you the chance to name a cockroach after someone special. “This year, I think what we’re trying to do is obviously raise some money but also spread a bit of joy and happiness this Valentine’s Day. This will be the third year that we’ve done the cockroach fundraiser and we just want people to have some fun with it,” said Koren Smith, director of marketing for the Science Museum of Western Virginia. It only costs you $5 and you’ll get an e-card that you can send to that “special” someone.

ROANOKE, Va. The Science Museum of Western Virginia cleaned out its closet and gave away educational materials in Market Square Saturday morning, but the items did not last long. Executive director Rachel Hopkins said their surplus ran out within half an hour. She said about a hundred kids and their parents came to their sidewalk social, and some lined up an hour before the event started. I think theres a demand for such items.The items included books, board games, and other assorted materials to help elementary-age children learn. The Science Museum of Western Virginia is still closed to the general public, although it is offering summer camps for children.
