ROANOKE COUNTY, Va. โ€“ Roanoke police issued a statement after some people saw a young boy put into a police car on Thursday morning. At 7:30 a.m., police responded after a 10-year-old boy with autism attacked a school bus monitor. The incident happened while the bus was at the intersection of Garst Mill and Pinevale roads, according to the Roanoke County Police Department. When the boy was asked to sit in the back of the bus, he became aggressive and police said he attacked the school bus monitor; however the monitor was not hurt. The officer then drove the boy to school in the front seat of the patrol car, and walked him inside to the principal.

An obstacle course for the departmentโ€™s K9 officers started taking shape behind its headquarters Friday. The course came from Spikeโ€™s K9 Fund, a Virginia Beach-based organization which provides for K9 officers across the country. Founder James Hatch donated the course to Roanoke County at no cost to taxpayers. โ€œThatโ€™s whether itโ€™s an agility course like this, bulletproof vests -- weโ€™ve provided bulletproof vests for all of the dogs here in Roanoke County -- or medical attention if they need it.โ€Hatch and other volunteers will complete construction of the course on Saturday.

The jailโ€™s medical staff performed CPR and other life-saving measures until Roanoke County Fire-EMS responded and took over, according to a release from the jail. Osbourn was pronounced dead at 7:25 a.m.Police say the Roanoke County Police Department has started an investigation and the Roanoke medical examinerโ€™s office will perform an autopsy. According to the jailโ€™s statement, there is no reason to believe Osbourneโ€™s death was related to coronavirus and jail officers interacted with Osbourne before he died. Osbourne was committed to Western Virginia Regional Jail on March 8, 2020 and was awaiting trial for a fraud charge in Salem as well as a probation violation and a narcotics charge in Danville and an additional narcotics charge in Martinsville.

ROANOKE COUNTY, Va. โ€“ The Roanoke County Police Department launched a new initiative, the Citizensโ€™ View Security Camera Program, to recruit the community to help to solve crimes. The department is asking for local home and business owners to voluntarily sign up to let police know if and where they have security cameras outside their stores or homes, including doorbell cameras, tree cameras and more sophisticated cameras. Therefore, if there is a crime, police can figure out if there are surveillance cameras nearby and begin to search for evidence. โ€œWe do not have remote access to the cameras," said McNamara. ROANOKE COUNTY, Va. - A Roanoke County officer is facing charges after he allegedly handed in faulty time cards over a two-year span. An investigation revealed that Steven McChesney Jr., 33, of Roanoke was recording time on department time sheets that had not been worked over a two-year period, according to police. Authorities say the discovery was made in June and McChesney was placed on paid administrative leave. He worked for the Roanoke County Police Department from 2013 to 2015 and then returned in 2016. McChesney has been charged with one count of obtaining money by false pretense in excess of $200 and two counts of obtaining money by false pretense in excess of $500.

ROANOKE COUNTY, Va. โ€“ A driver was taken to a hospital Sunday night after a crash in the 7500 block of Franklin Road, the Roanoke County Police Department said. No other vehicles were involved. The driver didnโ€™t have any passengers at the time. The wreck took place at 7:30 p.m.โ€œDriver fatigue and weather conditions were likely factors,โ€ police said in a news release. The driverโ€™s injuries are considered serious.
