ROANOKE COUNTY, Va. – Madison McDaniel and her boyfriend were found Thursday night and they are safe, according to the Roanoke County Police Department. ROANOKE COUNTY, Va. – The Roanoke County Police Department is investigating a murder that happened Monday night. The man was identified as Julian Brown, 31, of Roanoke County. According to authorities, Roanoke County Police were then contacted by Chesterfield County Police, saying the vehicle also didn’t stop for them. The Roanoke County Police Department and the Prevention Council of Roanoke County are encouraging people to participate in the 10th annual National Drug Take Back Day on Saturday, October 24, from 10 a.m to 2 p.m. Even if you don’t live in the Roanoke area, there are collection sites across the country where you can go. Organizers said these medications often end up in the wrong hands, so it’s important for families and businesses to do their part by getting rid of them. “Just leaving one pill, just one, in the hands of young people could lead to addiction," said Nancy Hans, the executive director of the Prevention Council of Roanoke County.

BEDFORD COUNTY, VA. – UPDATERoanoke County police said they arrested four more people in connection with this incident: Angelique Glovier, Steven Moses, Robin Nester and Joshua Dodson. Both the Bedford County Sheriff’s Office and Roanoke County Police Department are on this case. Bedford County Sheriff’s Office Investigator Christian Edmondson has worked on the case, and while she’s worked robberies and abductions before, she’s never worked anything like this. The victim told police the suspects then returned back and wanted more from him. “You know he was beaten in Roanoke County and was robbed of some items there ... before being transported back to Bedford County," Edmondson said.

Morris rushed to the bus stop near Pinevale and Garst Mill Roads. Police said a 9-year-old boy, who has behavioral issues, was getting on the bus but refused to wear a mask. When he was asked to sit in the back, he got aggressive and attacked the school bus monitor. “Your concerns, obviously, go to the safety of the children - all of the children - that are on the bus,” said Morris. That’s when Morris, a mom and a school resource officer, stepped in.

ROANOKE COUNTY, Va. – Roanoke police issued a statement after some people saw a young boy put into a police car on Thursday morning. At 7:30 a.m., police responded after a 10-year-old boy with autism attacked a school bus monitor. The incident happened while the bus was at the intersection of Garst Mill and Pinevale roads, according to the Roanoke County Police Department. When the boy was asked to sit in the back of the bus, he became aggressive and police said he attacked the school bus monitor; however the monitor was not hurt. The officer then drove the boy to school in the front seat of the patrol car, and walked him inside to the principal.

ROANOKE COUNTY, Va. – The Roanoke County Police Department now has a dedicated place to teach its dogs new tricks. An obstacle course for the department’s K9 officers started taking shape behind its headquarters Friday. The course came from Spike’s K9 Fund, a Virginia Beach-based organization which provides for K9 officers across the country. Founder James Hatch donated the course to Roanoke County at no cost to taxpayers. “That’s whether it’s an agility course like this, bulletproof vests -- we’ve provided bulletproof vests for all of the dogs here in Roanoke County -- or medical attention if they need it.”Hatch and other volunteers will complete construction of the course on Saturday.

ROANOKE COUNTY, Va. – Ahead of a special Virginia General Assembly session in August on police reform, the first of three joint House committee meetings were held Wednesday. During the Joint Meeting of Courts of Justice and Public Safety Committees on Wednesday morning, lawmakers pushed for transparency and accountability when it comes to citizen complaints and misconduct investigations. Law enforcement talked about the importance of accreditation, training and body-worn cameras. As lawmakers put lead law enforcement officials in the hot seat looking to make change, Hall said that those changes have to be specific and actionable. “I think we have to be very careful in trying to understand what we’re trying to accomplish,” said Hall.

ROANOKE CO., Va. According to the Roanoke County Police Department, a man has been arrested after making several threats to others at Food Lion near Plantation Road. Police say the suspect was taken into custody around 1:50 p.m.

ROANOKE COUNTY, Va. – Roanoke County police are urging people to slow down. “We do see an increased number in speed complaints in neighborhoods, just more people being at home," said Sgt. Northam’s stay-at-home order went into effect in March but the number of fatal and non-fatal speed-related crashes increased compared to 2019. According to the Governors Highway Safety Association, there has been a “severe spike” in speeding nationwide as a result of so many people staying at home. The DMV campaign is also an opportunity to remind people about something that can be just as important as their speed.

ROANOKE COUNTY, Va. – An inmate death at the Western Virginia Regional Jail is under investigation, according to jail officials. The jail’s medical staff performed CPR and other life-saving measures until Roanoke County Fire-EMS responded and took over, according to a release from the jail. Osbourn was pronounced dead at 7:25 a.m.Police say the Roanoke County Police Department has started an investigation and the Roanoke medical examiner’s office will perform an autopsy. According to the jail’s statement, there is no reason to believe Osbourne’s death was related to coronavirus and jail officers interacted with Osbourne before he died. Osbourne was committed to Western Virginia Regional Jail on March 8, 2020 and was awaiting trial for a fraud charge in Salem as well as a probation violation and a narcotics charge in Danville and an additional narcotics charge in Martinsville.

ROANOKE COUNTY, Va. – The Roanoke County Police Department launched a new initiative, the Citizens’ View Security Camera Program, to recruit the community to help to solve crimes. The department is asking for local home and business owners to voluntarily sign up to let police know if and where they have security cameras outside their stores or homes, including doorbell cameras, tree cameras and more sophisticated cameras. Therefore, if there is a crime, police can figure out if there are surveillance cameras nearby and begin to search for evidence. “We do not have remote access to the cameras," said McNamara. His store’s security footage has even come in handy before.

ROANOKE COUNTY, Va. - Roanoke County authorities are searching for a man they say stole more than $500 in tools last week. According to the Roanoke County Police Department, the tools were stolen on Sept. 2 around 8:30 p.m. in the 5300 block of Peters Creek Road. The man is wanted on suspicion for grand larceny. Below is the full statement from Roanoke County Public Schools:"On the morning of Sept. 6, at around 7:20 a.m., the Roanoke County Police Department asked us to place schools on a shelter in place as a precaution due to a report of a suspicious person armed with a weapon in the southwest portion of Roanoke County. As a further precaution, we decided to place all schools on a shelter in place because this persons whereabouts was unknown. A shelter in place means students remain inside the building and continue the school day. We want to express our sincere appreciation to the Roanoke County Police Department for their swift response and detailed attention to keeping our schools safe and secure."

ROANOKE COUNTY, Va. - A Roanoke County officer is facing charges after he allegedly handed in faulty time cards over a two-year span. An investigation revealed that Steven McChesney Jr., 33, of Roanoke was recording time on department time sheets that had not been worked over a two-year period, according to police. Authorities say the discovery was made in June and McChesney was placed on paid administrative leave. He worked for the Roanoke County Police Department from 2013 to 2015 and then returned in 2016. McChesney has been charged with one count of obtaining money by false pretense in excess of $200 and two counts of obtaining money by false pretense in excess of $500.

ROANOKE COUNTY, Va. – A driver was taken to a hospital Sunday night after a crash in the 7500 block of Franklin Road, the Roanoke County Police Department said. No other vehicles were involved. The driver didn’t have any passengers at the time. The wreck took place at 7:30 p.m.“Driver fatigue and weather conditions were likely factors,” police said in a news release. The driver’s injuries are considered serious.
