ROANOKE, Va. While the Roanoke City Jail was late to experience positive coronavirus cases, some family members of inmates said jail-wide testing should have taken place sooner. As 10 News has reported, the Roanoke City Sheriffs Office announced everyone would be tested following several positive cases. A total of 14 inmates at the Roanoke City Jail have tested positive for the coronavirus, according to the Roanoke City Sheriffs Office. On Monday, the Sheriffs Office announced that of 389 inmates who were tested, 10 tested positive. This 10 is in addition to the four cases among inmates and 14 cases among Sheriffs Office staff, that 10 News has previously reported.

ROANOKE, Va. The Roanoke City Sheriffs Office announced Thursday that all inmates at the city jail will be tested for COVID-19 starting on Friday. Inmates, as well as staff members who have contact with the jail or sheriffs administrative areas, will be tested, according to the Sheriffs Office. To date, the Sheriffs Office said there have been four positive cases among inmates in the Roanoke City Jail, and 14 positive cases among staff members. The Sheriffs Office said it will take about 24-48 hours on average to get results back. The Virginia Department of Health (VDH) will assist with the Sheriffs Office in testing staff members, including contract employees and vendors.

ROANOKE, Va. While no inmates at the Roanoke City Jail have tested positive for the coronavirus, the same cannot be said of the Roanoke City Sheriffs Office staff. The Sheriffs Office announced Tuesday that a total of 12 staff have tested positive. As a precaution, employees who had the potential for exposure were also sent for testing and quarantined, per consultation with the Virginia Department ofHealth. The Sheriffs Office explained some of its policies and procedures regarding COVID-19. Anyone with a fever or other symptoms, or not wearing some type of face covering, is not allowed to enter.
