Olympic champion Marco Odermatt held off a challenge by home crowd favorite Marco Schwarz to win the season-opening men’s World Cup giant slalom in the Austrian Alps.

Marco Odermatt has won gold in the men’s super-G at the Alpine skiing world championships as the Swiss skier justified his status as the big pre-race favorite.

First-run leader Alexis Pinturault held on to win the gold medal in the men’s combined at his home world championships.
