Hokies extend win streak to 16 and officially clinch a spot in the ACC Softball Tournament.

Tobi Lawal had 15 points with 10 rebounds, Brandon Rechsteiner made seven free throws in the final minute and Virginia Tech rallied to defeat Notre Dame 65-63. A dunk on an offensive rebound by Lawal gave Virginia Tech a 55-54 lead with 3:06 remaining. Ben Burnham added a 3-pointer for the Hokies a minute later for a 58-54 lead. With 32 seconds left, Rechsteiner made one free throw and missed the second, but Jaden Schutt grabbed the offensive rebound. Rechsteiner was fouled with 27 seconds left and made both free throws for a 61-56 lead. He made four more free throws in the next 23 seconds, the last two for a 65-61 lead with four seconds remaining.

The Fighting Irish won their 13th straight game and beat Virginia Tech for the seventh consecutive time.

Sonia Citron made a career-high six 3-pointers.

Olivia Miles notched 16 points, 13 rebounds in the victory.

Hokies started the game on a 10-2 run.

The Cavaliers were held to just 3-of-14 shooting from three point range in the road loss.

The Hokies overcame a 10 point second half deficit for the win, snapping a six-game win streak by the Fighting Irish.

Irish eyes were smiling at Lane Stadium on Saturday.

Virginia Tech is playing host to Notre Dame in just four days. The Irish is coming off of their first loss of the season on Saturday against Cincinnati. Virginia Tech is coming out of a bye, giving the Hokie defense extra time to study an offense that operates with three quarterbacks.

Although it was a win, Virginia Tech’s game against Richmond certainly showed some weaknesses.

Charlottesville, Va. – Jay Huff scored 18 points and Sam Hauser had 15 points and nine rebounds as No. 18 Virginia beat Notre Dame 80-68 for its fourth consecutive victory. The 7-foot-1 Huff made a career-best four 3-pointers - all in the first half - as the 8-2 Cavaliers opened an 18-10 lead and built it to 37-25 by halftime. Cormac Ryan scored 16 and Trey Wertz 13 for the 3-8 Fighting Irish, who lost their fourth in a row. They are 0-11 against Virginia in ACC play.

Top rushing yards for Virginia Tech came from Quincy Patterson II, Deshawn McClease, Dalton Kenee and Tre Turner, with a total of 109 yards. Top rushing yards for Notre Dame came from Jafar Amrstrong, Ian Book, Jahmir Smith, and Avery Davis, with a total of 85 yards. The Hokies will take on Wake Forest at home Nov. 9, and Notre Dame will take on Duke.

SOUTH BEND, IN - The University of Virginia Cavaliers leads the Notre Dame Fighting Irish at halftime 17-14 in South Bend Indiana. UVA had 233 passing yards in the first half. Notre Dame has 160.
