MARTINSVILLE, Va. – Police arrested two men Friday they believe shot at a home and car in Martinsville earlier this month. On Friday, Jan. 15, at about 11:49 pm, the Martinsville Police Department responded to a call of shots fired near the intersection of First and B streets. Officers arrived to find that both a home in the 400 block of First Street and a vehicle had been hit by gunfire. On Friday, the Martinsville Police Department arrested two men in connection with the shooting. Martin faces additional charges of shooting into an occupied dwelling, felony vandalism, malicious wounding, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony.

MARTINSVILLE, Va. – The Martinsville Police Department is searching for an 18-year-old man it believes shot at a car Sunday afternoon, hitting the driver. At 4:45 p.m., on Starling Avenue at the intersection of Wilson Street, Nyzah Antonio Bradley shot at a blue Chevy Camaro, hitting the driver in the leg, according to the Martinsville Police Department. The driver was then taken to Sovah Health in Martinsville and later released. Warrants have been issued for Bradley on the charges of malicious wounding, shooting into an occupied vehicle, using a firearm in the commission of a felony, reckless handling of a firearm and discharging a firearm in the city. MARTINSVILLE, Va. – A Martinsville City Council member is trying to make sure people in his city who need masks to help protect themselves from the coronavirus have them. He volunteered to sell and deliver them for the Martinsville business owner who made them because she doesn’t have time. When Turner saw police officers out on a community walk Thursday morning, he stopped and gave them some masks. I’ve been delivering masks all morning long," Turner said. MARTINSVILLE, Va. – A 52-year-old Martinsville woman died after being hit by a car while trying to cross a street on Wednesday evening. Police said that Donna Day Spencer was trying in the 300 block of Fayette Street when she tried to cross the road at about 6:25 p.m., but was hit by a 2014 Toyota Prius. She was taken to Sovah Health in Martinsville and then to Roanoke Memorial Hospital where she died. The case remains under investigation by the Martinsville Police Department. MARTINSVILLE, Va. - A kitten hitched a free ride of more than 250 miles across state lines. A couple returned to Martinsville after a trip to Cherokee, North Carolina, and discovered when they arrived home a kitten had stowed away for the ride, according to the Martinsville Police Department. The kitten who made the trip, now appropriately named Cherokee, likely will have a "stray hold" to give possible owners a chance to claim the kitten before Cherokee is placed for adoption. MARTINSVILLE, Va. - A 54-year-old Martinsville man is recovering after being hit by a car while crossing the road, according to the Martinsville Police Department. Police say the pedestrian-involved crash happened at 9:54 p.m. on Starling Avenue. The man was not at an intersection at the time of the crash. A Honda Fit was going north when it hit Gerald Carter, who was not in a crosswalk, according to police. Carter was transported to SOVAH Hospital of Martinsville and then to Carilion Hospital in Roanoke.
