They are also providing the community with some traditional sights of the holiday season as several stores around Market Square have decorated their window fronts. The idea behind some of the extravagant displays is to encourage people to shop local this holiday season. โ€œItโ€™s been wonderful even when we were decorating the windows and just putting them up, the people stopping on the street just to say how excited they were to see some beautiful Christmas windows downtown again and to see them in the Heironimus building again,โ€ said Olivia King, a manager at Mast General Store. This is the first Christmas Mast General Store has been open in Roanoke.

ROANOKE, Va. โ€“ The Roanoke Police Department arrested the man responsible for stabbing two men Friday night. At 9:15 p.m., police responded to the Market Square area downtown and found two men with non-life-threatening stab wounds. The two injured men were transported to Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital and officers located a suspect on the scene. Kemarcus Curry, 34, was arrested and charged with two counts of malicious wounding, according to authorities. Police said that all three men know each other and a verbal altercation escalated to the stabbing.

ROANOKE, Va. The Science Museum of Western Virginia cleaned out its closet and gave away educational materials in Market Square Saturday morning, but the items did not last long. Executive director Rachel Hopkins said their surplus ran out within half an hour. She said about a hundred kids and their parents came to their sidewalk social, and some lined up an hour before the event started. I think theres a demand for such items.The items included books, board games, and other assorted materials to help elementary-age children learn. The Science Museum of Western Virginia is still closed to the general public, although it is offering summer camps for children.
