LYNCHBURG, Va. – The Lynchburg Fire Department received special pizza deliveries – but not from your typical pizza-delivery person. Members of Gethsemane Baptist Church have been visiting Hill City fire stations over the past three days, providing meals to firefighters and EMS workers. Pastor Carlton Duck says it’s a way of shining some light amid the darkness of the pandemic. “We think it’s a great way to let the people in our community, those who are first responders, know how important they are to us; and it’s a way for us to say ‘thank you’ and ‘bless you’ for what you’re doing for the community,” Duck said. The church partnered with Little Caesar’s for the donation.

LYNCHBURG, Va. – When it comes to sleeping babies, local child care experts want parents to wake up. “The Virginia State Child Fatality Review Team determined 87% of non-natural infant deaths between 2014-2016 were sleep-related in nature,” said Shannon Miles of Centra. Lynchburg Police Chief Ryan Zuidema and Fire Chief Greg Wormser also had some advice for parents with young children. The 2018 data showed that 85% of sleep-related deaths in the state of Virginia were tied to infants who were sleeping on a couch, a bed or some other inappropriate sleep surface,” Chief Wormser added. Other things to keep in mind: using a firm sleep surface with a firm crib mattress covered by a fitted sheet and checking regularly for product recalls.

LYNCHBURG, Va – A house fire that left one person dead in Lynchburg is inspiring the city’s fire department to take action and inform the community. Members of the fire department spent Monday afternoon knocking on doors and passing out pamphlets on Oxford Street where a deadly fire broke out on early Sunday morning. “We’re working on ways to be in reengaged and be reengaged with the public so we can keep them safe,” Lynchburg Fire Chief Greg Wormser said. Fire Chief Greg Wormser said it shows the community they are cared for and could save a life. Fire officials are still investigating the cause of the fire here on Oxford Street but it appears to be accidental.

LYNCHBURG, Va. The Lynchburg Fire Department is ready to answer the call no matter how difficult. Its a handheld 360 degree camera with flashlights ready to be used in any situation. The man made it out safely, but first responders had to make sure there was no one else in the truck. We had the camera in operations about a week and it worked pretty well, Turner said. The Amherst County Sheriff Office told 10 News the man driving the truck is OK and was charged with public intoxication.

LYNCHBURG, Va. Five people are in the hospital after an accident in Lynchburg on WednesdayPolice said it happened at noon on the 1900-block of Wards Ferry Road. The Lynchburg Fire Department extricated several people from one of the vehicles the two vehicles involved. Were told two people have serious injuries and the other three have minor injuries. All five were taken to Lynchburg General Hospital. Police have not said what caused the accident and are still investigating.

LYNCHBURG, Va. - A 24-year-old man was pronounced dead at Lynchburg General Hospital after being found unresponsive inside the Lynchburg Adult Detention Center, according to the Lynchburg Police Department. At 7:14 a.m. Tuesday, officers responded to the jail for a report of an unresponsive man. When Kevin Tyler Caldwell was found, jail authorities performed CPR immediately until Lynchburg Fire Department medics and Lynchburg Police Department officers arrived, according to the Police Department. Caldwell was then transported to Lynchburg General Hospital and later pronounced dead at the hospital. Anyone with information about this incident should contact Detective Davis at 434-455-6166 or Crime Stoppers at 1-888-798-5900.

LYNCHBURG, Va. - Local first responders are investing in new devices to keep you safe. The Lynchburg Fire Department is looking to replace all of it's 17-year-old cardiac arrest monitors. First responders said while transporting a patient the monitor can transfer the patient's information to their tablets. The department recently received a state grant and are expecting Lynchburg City Council members to fund the other half at a Tuesday night council meeting. First responders said the monitors will help 85% of their patients.
