ROANOKE, Va. โ€“ Carilion Clinic closed its NICU Tuesday, so no one will be permitted to visit Carilion Childrenโ€™s NICU. Dr. Kimberly Dunsmore, the chair of Carilion Childrenโ€™s Hospital, said the purpose of the decision is to protect these vulnerable patients from any exposure to the coronavirus. The move is likely to cause anxiety and fear for NICU parents. Carilion Childrenโ€™s NICU is working with mothers to continue to provide breast milk for their babies through a coordinated drop off program. Labor and delivery patients are allowed one visitor during their stay, including during the birth.

John is the recipient of five Emmy awards for reporting, as well as numerous awards from RTNDA, VAB and Associated Press. John is a graduate of the State University of New York at Plattsburgh with a degree in mass communication. "2019 has been a journey for me the whole way," Carlin said. Carlin was healthy enough to participate in the Virginia's Blue Ridge Gran Fondo bike ride Sunday morning. More than 200 cyclists participated in the ride, which raised money and awareness for the Foundation for Sarcoidosis Research. Carlin said he's fortunate to have had the strength to complete the course, which wound through the back roads of Botetourt County. "Two or three months ago, I didn't think I would be able to make this ride today," Carlin said.
