WSLS had a record number of partner shelters in 2025 and a record number of animals that got adopted! Partner shelters reported nearly 1,000 pets adopted during the campaign.

WSLS 10 News helped to Clear the Shelters on Saturday.

The Lynchburg Humane Society is waiving all pet adoption fees this weekend as part of the Clear the Shelters Fee-Waived Adoption Special.

Staff say this fun loving feline bounces around her kennel and snags any passersby for a quick play session.

The Center will hold an adoption event from 11-4pm. All pet adoption fees will be waived.

Now is the perfect time to adopt at Lynchburg Humane. Aug. 18, all dogs, cats, and kittens' adoption fees (excluding VIP pets) have been waived as part of the Clear the Shelters campaign.

Both Paris and Prada have been adopted after spending several weeks at the Regional Center for Animal Care & Protection in Roanoke.

We’re are working to find homes for animals through our Clear the Shelters initiative.

Starting next week, NBC’s seventh annual Clear the Shelters event begins.

This year’s Clear the Shelters looked a lot different than usual, especially because it lasted the whole month of August, not just one day. They are unusual names for sure, but it was Dennis Quaid (the cat) who got the most attention. It did not take long for the Lynchburg Humane Society to be thrown into the Hollywood spotlight. He’s a fantastic cat,” said Danielle Ulmer, Lynchburg Humane Society Adoption Center Manager. With 1,022 pets adopted during Clear the Shelters 2020, you’re proving you don’t have to be a big-time movie star to help write the next chapter in the life of a homeless pet.

The national Clear the Shelters event encouraged people to adopt pets in animal shelters with waived or reduced adoption fees. This year, both the Roanoke Valley Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals and the Lynchburg Humane Society saw crowds searching for pets that needed a home. The Roanoke Valley SPCA started Saturday with more than 50 pets available for adoption. The Lynchburg Humane Society had 42 adoptions Saturday. WSLS partnered with the Lynchburg Humane Society and the Roanoke Valley SPCA for the Clear the Shelters campaign.

There's a pet for everyone at the Roanoke Valley SPCA. This weekend is your chance to adopt and make sure animal shelters across Southwest Virginia have enough space to save other strays. Denise Hayes, shelter's CEO, is hoping every one of the 50 cats and dogs at the shelter will find loving homes during Saturday's annual Clear the Shelters event. WSLS is parterning with the Lynchburg Humane Society and the Roanoke Valley SPCA for the national Clear the Shelters campaign. Last year, 35 pets were adopted at the Roanoke Valley SPCA.

ROANOKE, Va. - This Saturday, the Roanoke SPCA will be participating in the nationwide Clear the Shelters event. If your current address isn't listed on your ID, make sure to bring a piece of mail that has your current address. The same goes for every dog -- they must have the correct walking equipment like a collar, leash or even a harness. Shelter officials also encourage you to bring your resident dog to meet the dog you want to adopt to make sure it's the right fit. LYNCHBURG, Va. - It's national Clear the Shelter this weekend, and local shelters are relying on your help. Though the big event is Saturday, the Lynchburg Humane Society is getting a head start with its special on Thursday. Adoption fees will be waived, except for the $6 microchip fee.
