One non-profit, Casa Latina in Roanoke, has been attempting to spread information about what immigrants and Hispanics need to hear just in case they are approached by immigration officers.

Two Roanoke organizations are teaming up soon to host a pet clinic for the Spanish-speaking community.

Casa Latina is a non-profit created to help address the needs of Hispanics in the area.

Casa Latina in Roanoke said Hispanic Heritage Month is about celebrating culture and values through food, music, and community.

The past year has brought financial strain, isolation and a slew of other unique and complicated problems for every Virginian.

ROANOKE, Va. – While Hispanic and Latino Heritage Month comes to an end on Oct. 15, there’s an organization working hard to celebrate and connect the Spanish-speaking community in the Roanoke Valley. Casa Latina is a nonprofit run by volunteers in Roanoke that helps Spanish-speaking people from all over the world who call Southwest Virginia home. The organization’s programs address social, cultural and educational aspects of the Spanish-speaking community. ROANOKE, Va. A nonprofit in Roanoke is working to bridge the gap between the Latino community and the Virginia Department of Health (VDH) to help reach people who are most effected by the coronavirus. Casa Latina provides resources like English classes and cultural activities for about 70 families a year. They live together in some small houses so thats why maybe the propagation of the virus, said Thania Torres, volunteer coordinator for Casa Latina. At the end of the day, the nonprofit wants to help serve the Latino community and act as a place where all are welcome to learn and grow.
