ROANOKE, VA. – Fall foliage is right on the horizon and each year thousands of people hit the Blue Ridge Parkway to see them. But this year, there’s one hitch — the Blue Ridge Parkway is still closed from Explore Park in the Vinton area to Bent Mountain from prior storm damage. Despite that, Roanoke Valley tourism leaders said this might actually be a good thing for the region’s hospitality industry, which is badly hurting from the COVID pandemic. Visit Virginia’s Blue Ridge President Landon Howard said that could be right in front of Pascal’s door. Visit Virginia’s Blue Ridge recognizes this plan welcomes people into the region during an ongoing pandemic, which is why it continues to push social distancing, face coverings and strict sanitation procedures.

Roanoke – The beauty of nature was caught on camera as a local man gets a close encounter with a black bear and her three baby cubs. Terry McKim was on Bent Mountain in Roanoke when he spotted a large black bear crossing the road into the brush. He was a safe distance away when McKim said he heard the bear grunt, then spotted three small cubs following behind her. She was trying to get the cubs across the road safely, but they trio didn’t seem to be in too much of a hurry, but instead playfully followed their mother as she grabbed one of them by the scruff of it’s neck to safety. The experience was posted on the Facebook page “Preserve Bent Mountain.” In the post McKim said his entire year was made by witnessing the experience.

They could probably write a movie about the way things have happened," Major said. On March 3, they delivered their first shipment of salsa to 11 local Kroger grocery stores. Bent Mountain Salsa is the first business started in the kitchen to have its products sold by a major grocery store chain.
