Callers will receive an email that will allow them to complete the necessary information and make an appointment to receive their vaccination. For those making appointments, the health district asks that you not arrive earlier than 20 minutes before your appointment time. The health district is also asking for volunteers, both medical and non-medical.

Agricultural groups like the Virginia Farm Bureau know farmers are essential workers, and they are supporting efforts to get them vaccinated against COVID-19. “Our nation’s food supply depends on farmers’ and frontline agricultural workers’ ability to work safely,” said Ben Rowe, national affairs coordinator for Virginia Farm Bureau Federation. Officials announced Wednesday that the music festival has been officially confirmed to take place from September 9-12. In 2020, the festival was postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic. APPOMATTOX, Va. – An Appomattox kindergartner is checking the list twice as he plays Santa this season by donating toys to other children. Five-year-old Caleb O’Brien raised $652.45 to buy 84 toys for underprivileged children. It’s an idea he got last year from watching bell ringers collect money. With fewer bell ringers around due to the pandemic this year, Caleb quickly got his Santa hat, bell and piggy bank to step right in. So, I’m very touched.”Caleb plans to donate toys again next year and is already collecting coins to do so.

CAMPBELL COUNTY, Va. – Some localities are frustrated by new restrictions in Virginia and are taking action. Bedford, Campbell and Appomattox counties are all drafting ‘no shutdown resolutions’ against Governor Ralph Northam’s executive order, calling it unconstitutional. Campbell County Supervisor Matt Cline says it goes against the First Amendment right to gather. After a vote, the topic failed to make it on the agenda. Campbell County supervisors plan on discussing the resolution at their next meeting on December 1.

APPOMATTOX COUNTY, Va. – The chairman of the Appomattox County School Board is stepping down, according to school leaders. Waddell has been on the school board for 15 years and has served as chairman since 2012. School leaders said Waddell and his wife are moving to a new home in Appomattox outside of the district in which he was elected. School leaders said only the citizens considered during the public hearing will be eligible for appointment to the role. His experience as a former teacher and administrator in Appomattox and Prince Edward counties afforded our school division a vast advantage.

APPOMATTOX, Va. – Two men have been charged with murder in connection to human remains that were found in a burned-out SUV, according to the Appomattox County Sheriff’s Office. Authorities say Enrico Moss, 29, of Appomattox, has been charged with the first-degree murder of Carlos Rose. According to the sheriff’s office, Green was the man with the Bugs Bunny hat in the photos authorities released on Oct. 27. The sheriff’s office released a photo of someone in a surgical mask, who they are still working to identify and locate. Anyone with information on Green’s location is asked to call the Appomattox County Sheriff’s Office at 434-352-8241.

APPOMATTOX, Va. School hasnt even started yet, but 11 teachers have already called out in Appomattox County in relation to COVID-19. For one reason or another, whether they have symptoms themselves or theyre living with someone with symptoms, Bennett said. The school district isnt equipped right now to bring in substitutes, so they need staff to be healthy. The number of teachers calling out isnt the only reason why school wont start in person on Aug. 24. Appomattox students will start their hybrid and in person learning on Sept. 14th.

Horizon Behavioral Health and the Sheriff’s Office installed the $2,000 drug box. Horizon’s Behavioral Health and the Appomattox Sheriff’s Office installed a $2,000 drug box in the office. Sheriff Donald Simpson said taking prescription drugs, twice a year, on National Take Drugs Back Day was not enough as there have been plenty of people wanting to drop off expired pills at other times. After the success of the Ronnie Roberts Classic, the Lynchburg Hillcats decided to host another special baseball game at Bank of James Stadium, this time to honor the seniors from the Dogwood District. More than 20 players came together two make up two teams. The Blue team consisted of players from Appomattox, Dan River, and William Campbell High Schools. The Grey team consisted of players from Altavista and Gretna High Schools. Sunday nights game had a great display of defensive play and big bats, as the Blue team scored in the final 4 innings to secure a 14-2 victory.

APPOMATTOX, Va. Hard rock and heavy metal fans have begun to look forward to Blue Ridge Rock Festival in recent years. The CEO of the festival, Jon Slye, announced on Facebook Live Tuesday night that the 2020 festival will be postponed until September 9-12, 2021. Slye says that the hope is to bring back a lot of the favorite acts, some of which had already been booked for the 2020 festival. Some more popular acts such as Bad Wolves, Beartooth, Black Label Society and All That Remains (just to name a few) were already booked. Theres no official word yet on if these bands will be at the 2021 festival, though.

APPOMATTOX, Va. – Wolfbane Productions invites you to experience a Broadway show beyond the stage with a twist on “Guy and Dolls”. “Guys and Dolls” is the first show of Wolfbane Productions’ Howling 2020 season, its first year-long season. The show is set in a different time period, the roaring 1920s to celebrate the new 2020 decade. Another difference, this show is usually done with more than 30 actors where Wolfbane is carrying this show with 14 actors. Instead of a stage, Wolfbane has transformed its wolf den into a 1920s speakeasy that immerses the audience into the show.

GILES COUNTY, Va. – Another local area has been declared a Second Amendment sanctuary. The Giles County Board of Supervisors approved it with a 5-0 vote Thursday night. Giles County joins Appomattox, Campbell, Carroll, Charlotte, Patrick and Pittsylvania counties in the designation. Franklin and Pulaski counties are considering the measure.

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – A growing number of counties in Central and Southwest Virginia are labeling themselves as “Second Amendment sanctuaries” ahead of the new legislative session, but what affect will that have on gun laws? Appomattox, Carroll, Charlotte, Patrick, and Pittsylvania counties have already declared themselves Second Amendment sanctuaries, which will oppose gun control measures; Franklin and Pulaski counties are considering making the same declaration. However, University of Virginia Professor Rich Schragger, who specializes in constitutional law, said some gun control measures are constitutional, which means the Second Amendment sanctuaries would likely not be able to block them. Mostly, declaring yourself a Second Amendment sanctuary is more of a symbolic statement.”Schragger said the wave of new Second Amendment sanctuaries also signifies more rural communities’ efforts to have their concerns heard at the State Capitol. "It’s similar to when urban communities have made statements in the other direction for gun control.

Appalachian Power is holding informational meetings about upgrading its transmission network in Campbell, Amherst, Appomattox and Nelson counties. Officials tell 10 News the Central Virginia Transmission Reliability project will take several years. This project will help provide reliable power to property owners nearby. This will give us a chance to talk to property owners for the first time. Appalachian Power will hold another meeting Thursday at 5:30 p.m. at Amherst County High School.

ROANOKE, Va - The Giles Spartans have made it to the playoffs every single year since 2011 but fell to Appomattox in the first round last season. Giles has an offense that works under head coach Jeff Williams: the single wing. But Williams and his team know in order to get the ball moving, it has to start up front. "We're going to have to get better up on the offensive line this year and on the defensive front, too. Giles opens up its season at home on Aug. 30 against Blacksburg.
