In Virginia, missing children are often identified with one of two alerts: AMBER Alerts and CODI Alerts. But what is the difference between these two?

The Franklin County Sheriff’s Office announced in a social media post Tuesday that it was issuing an amber alert for a missing six-day-old infant.

HENRY COUNTY, VA. – The Texas man accused of traveling to Henry County to abduct a 12-year-old girl remains in jail Monday after law enforcement worked for 36 hours to bring her home. With help from the FBI and other agencies, the Henry County Sheriff’s Office was able to track an electronic device to break the case. In the hours following his capture, Henry County Sheriff Lane Perry said they were working to determine if Merritt was communicating with more underage girls. Investigators now believe that Merritt was in communication with at least one other Henry County girl and another department somewhere else in the country is also looking for information about Merritt. The Henry County Sheriff’s Office seized some electronic devices from Merritt the day before he fled town with the girl.

The Henry County Sheriff’s Office held another news conference at 8:30 p.m. on Saturday to release more information about the abduction of Allie Broadaway. Virginia State Police canceled the Amber Alert issued out for her disappearance around 7:32 p.m. as authorities said the Henry County girl was safely located. The Sheriff’s Office said the child abduction suspect, 21-year-old Kaleb Merritt, is in custody. Broadaway had been reported missing at 1:45 p.m. on Friday by her family.

– A 10-year-old girl kidnapped taken from her Louisiana neighborhood Sunday is back with her family thanks to the quick actions of two sanitation workers, according to KLAF. Early that afternoon, Jalisa Lasalle’s family reported her missing. Soon after, sanitation workers Dion Merrick and Brandon Antoine spotted a car matching that description parked in a field along their route. The two workers used their truck to block the vehicle’s exit, called 911, and within minutes officers arrived. “When they grabbed the little girl out of the car, when the cop took the little girl out of the car, I am not exactly sure what she said, but it sounded like she said ‘I thank y’all’ and from there I just started crying,” said Antoine.

When I reached out to the Sheriff's Office, I learned that the Sheriff's Office was finally able to obtain an abduction warrant on Lynch, which allowed the green light for the Amber Alert. The Sheriff's Office didn't explain why there was a holdup in obtaining this warrant.

The FBI contributed $5,000 toward the reward for information leading to Dulce or the identification of someone involved in her disappearance. Carl Ray Kennedy pleaded guilty to an interstate violation of a protection order. (CNN) - New Jersey officials issued a statewide Amber Alert for a missing 5-year-old girl who authorities say may have been abducted from a playground on Monday. Officers responded to the Bridgeton city park's ball fields and playground area for a report of a missing child at about 4:50 p.m. Monday. Bridgeton Police Chief Michael Gaimari issued the Amber Alert after interviewing and re-interviewing people who were in Bridgeton's city park near the ball fields on Monday afternoon. Police say Legend Masir Goodwine was inside a gold Acura TL that was stolen late Sunday night in High Point, North Carolina, triggering the Amber Alert. CHARLOTTE, N.C. - North Carolina authorities have issued an Amber Alert after a 4-month-old was abducted from a day care center Monday afternoon, according to WCNC. The Bladen County Sheriff's Office told the NBC affiliate that Lonnisha Renee Askew was taken from the day care by her 22-year-old mother, Juanita Renee Askew, who is reportedly the noncustodial parent of Lonnisha. Authorities say she should be considered dangerous and that she has violent tendencies. Deputies say Askew went to the day care and took Lonnisha before leaving, but she is not allowed to have unsupervised visits with the child. Authorities say she requires special foods due to a birth defect.
