BLACKSBURG, Va. – Update:
The Montgomery County Fire Department provided an update on the fire that occurred Monday. According to officials, the fire was extinguished around 8 p.m. Monday evening.

Officials said the fire was especially hard to contain due to the construction of the silos and structural instability caused by the heat. Fire crews laid an estimated 1,500 feet of large diameter hose to conduct a drafting operation and supply multiple master stream devices.

Fire crews are currently on the scene working a major fire in the 600 block of Jennelle Road. Smoke may be visible in the area and officials are asking the public to yield to emergency vehicles.
