William Fleming High School ‘hold and secure’ lifted after police find no credible threat

Roanoke Police have lifted the hold and secure order at William Fleming High School after determining the threat was not credible, officials said.

Normal activities have resumed following the investigation, according to a statement from Roanoke City Public Schools. RCPS has confirmed that appropriate disciplinary and legal actions will be taken in response to the incident.

“Roanoke City Public Schools does not tolerate threats or acts of violence,” the statement said. Families and students are urged to report any suspicious behavior immediately.

Officials also reminded parents to discuss with their children the serious consequences of making threats, which could include cancellation of school-related and athletic events if such behavior continues.

The safety and security of students and staff remain the district’s top priority. School officials thanked the community for their support and encouraged anyone with questions to contact the school directly.


William Fleming High School has been placed on a temporary “hold and secure” as police investigate a potential threat made on social media, according to school officials.

Students will remain inside the building while the school resource officer and administrators monitor entrances to ensure the school remains secure.

Authorities have urged parents to avoid coming to the school and said they will provide updates as they become available.
