ROANOKE, Va. – Update:
RPD has released an update on the major crash that killed one man and injured 8 in Northeast Roanoke on Saturday.
According to officials, the driver and sole occupant of the first car, later identified as 31-year-old Johnathan Robert Lambert, of Salem, was taken to the hospital, where he died.
The initial investigation determined an Oldsmobile Alero, driven by Lambert, was traveling north on Williamson Rd NE at a high rate of speed when it crossed the double yellow and struck the rear of a Street Glide Harley motorcycle. The Alero then turned sideways and was struck in the passenger side by a Chevy Silverado.
Six occupants of the Silverado were taken to local hospitals for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. The driver and passenger of the motorcycle were also taken to a local hospital and treated for minor injuries.
The investigation remains ongoing.
