Roanoke Fire Department provides update on Downtown Roanoke fire

The Roanoke City Market building announced that Fork in the Market will be closed until further notice

ROANOKE, Va. Update:

The Roanoke Fire and EMS Department provided an update on the fire at a restaurant in Market Square Friday afternoon.

The department said that crews were dispatched to a structure fire in the 30 block of Market Square SE that was reported by an alarm company. Roanoke Police Officers quickly arrived on the scene and confirmed there was a fire and began assisting with evacuation operations.

Battalion Chief 1 marked the incident a working fire and crews on engine 1 C-Shift arrived and reported heavy smoke showing from the side of the building and went to work extinguishing the fire.

Batallion Chief 1 reported a loss stop at 3:47 p.m. indicating the fire was extinguished and no additional property was expected to be lost or damaged. The fire was contained to the kitchen hood system and crews stayed on scene to ventilate the entire building, ensuring smoke and carbon monoxide was no longer present in the facility.

According to officials, no injuries were reported and at this time an estimated damage amount has not been determined.

Personnel from the Fire Marshal’s Office are on scene to determine the cause of the fire and when the building will be safe to reopen.

The Roanoke City Market Building thanked first responders Friday evening and announced that Fork in the Market will be closed until further notice.


Update:

The fire has been extinguished according to the Roanoke Fire Department, units are still on scene cleaning up equipment.


The Roanoke City Fire Department is currently handling a fire in Downtown Roanoke Market Square Friday. The department says that roads around Market Square are currently closed.
