The Virginia Employment Commission on Wednesday announced the end of the state’s Extended Benefits program. The federally-funded program provided up to an addition 13 weeks of benefits to people who had already exhausted their regular benefits and any Pandemic Emergency Unemployment Compensation benefits. It is ending because employment in Virginia has improved and no longer meets a federal threshold for the program to be funded.

Businesses and labor unions had pressed the government to step in with more direct support for people in precarious work situations. Under a furloughed worker program that expires next month, the government pays 80% of the wages of workers placed on leave. To underscore that his proposals have wide support, Sunak appeared outside his office before delivering his speech, holding a copy of the plan and flanked by representatives of the Confederation of British Industry and the Trades Union Congress. We’ve already lost 700,000 jobs.”In addition to the wage support program, Sunak said the government will help businesses by extending loan repayment deadlines and loan guarantees provided earlier this year.

ROANOKE, Va. – A local program came together to hit the gridiron this weekend in an effort to help students in Roanoke City Public Schools. Ball for a Cause was created in 2018 as an initiative to give back to the community through sports. The program held its second annual Touchdown Madness tournament at William Fleming High School. The tournament supports local students by sending them on field trips by providing funds to schools annually.
