Appalachian Power crews are responding to power outages affecting nearly 10,000 customers due to an early morning thunderstorm on April 3, 2025.

The aftermath of this week’s winter storm continues to impact many areas in the region, with cleanup efforts still underway. Floyd and Franklin counties have both declared a state of emergency due to widespread power outages, with more than half of residents in Franklin County still without electricity as of late Friday afternoon.

Hurricane hunters confirmed Tuesday morning that Lauras winds had strengthened to 75 mph as it churns in the Gulf of Mexico. Tropical storm and hurricane watches have already been posted for southeast Texas and most of the Louisiana coastline.
