The Auburn Eagles hosted the George Wythe Maroons this Friday night.

A rematch of last year’s semifinal was on tap in Grayson County Friday night. Last year’s semifinal saw a narrow win for the Blue Devils en route to the team’s first-ever state finals appearance.

George Wythe continued its dominance in the Mountain Empire with a thrilling 33-32 victory over Rural Retreat, extending the Maroons’ winning streak in this matchup to 20 straight games dating back to 2006.

Auburn Eagles have been one of the great comeback stories this season. From having no program in 2024 to starting 3-1, the team has shown remarkable progress.

Giles County and Narrows clashed in a heated county rivalry game, with Giles County securing a decisive 38-8 victory.

Radford secured a 31-20 victory over George Wythe on their home turf, Friday night.

The Spartans will continue the single-wing under new leadership

This week the Blue Devils defeated the Maroons, 18-16.

Bluefield, WV dominates Friday night against Giles, 45-22.

Giles won against Eastern Montgomery, 55-6.

Parry McCluer picked up another win of the season, 35-14 over Fort Chiswell.

This marks the second consecutive match-up that was decided by one point.

On Friday night, George Wythe defeated Carroll County, 42-7.

In Week 4 of the high school football season, Giles squeezed past Narrows, 20-14.

The Maroon Tide battled it out for the win, 7-6.

It’s hard to beat a team twice, let alone in a Region Championship, but George Wythe did just that on Saturday. The Maroons beat Grayson County 48-28 for the Region 1C title.

In a big upset game, Galax fell to Grayson County, 21-14.

They certainly brought their A-game on Thursday night, shutting out Bath County 49-0.

Grayson came out on top 35-7.

The defending Class 2 state champion Glenvar Highlanders faced Appomattox County in the 2C Region final. The Highlanders swept Appomattox 3-0 for the Region 2C title.

The Highlanders took down the Spartans 49-14.

The game’s final score was 27-22, George Wythe.

Pulaski County and Patrick Henry have given us some of the more entertaining games over the past few seasons. On Friday night – bruising physical play mixed with offensive talent all over the field.

Grayson County held strong and came out on top. They won against Fort Chiswell 31-8.

Giles fell to Grayson County 34-14.

This week’s game of the week certainly did not disappoint.

It’s Week 8 of 1st and 10, and this week’s Game of the Week could decide the Mountain Empire District as George Wythe takes on Galax.

Friday night’s out-of-district game did not go Galax’s way.

Trailing 20-7 with 3:52 left in the first half, the Galax Maroon Tide climbed back to leave Radford with a victory on Friday night.

Floyd County was recognizing greatness on Friday night and the Buffaloes didn’t disappoint on the gridiron.

In a Montgomery County battle, Eastern Montgomery proved superior on Friday night.

The Spartans hosted the Green Wave on Friday and proved dominant.

In the first football game played in Craig County since 2019, the Rockets got a victory.

After having their original Week 2 opponent canceled, the Pulaski County Cougars beat Jefferson Forest on Friday night.

In a back-and-forth game, Grayson County left Carroll County victorious on Friday night.

By halftime, Galax was up 21-0 and with no points scored by either team in the second half, that score propelled the Maroon Tide to a Region 1C title.

Galax will be hosting the Region 1C championship next week after beating George Wythe, 41-21, on Friday night.

MAX MEADOWS, Va. – Fort Chiswell may have struck first but that didn’t keep Rural Retreat down. The Rural Retreat Indians took down the Fort Chiswell Pioneers on Monday night, 21-14.

WYTHEVILLE, Va. – The Auburn Eagles beat Galax 53-41 on Friday at George Wythe High School to win the Mountain Empire District championship and secure their spot in the Region 1C tournament. Auburn’s Ethan Millirons led the Eagles with 31 points and Galax’s Cole Pickett led the Maroon Tide with 12.
