CHRISTIANSBURG, Va. – A group of demonstrators in the New River Valley took out their political frustration with a protest against Rep. Morgan Griffith. About 50 people protested in front of Griffith’s Christiansburg campaign office Friday morning. Protesters told 10 News they were upset about Griffith’s vote against certifying the Electoral College results of the presidential election. The protest was organized by Appalachian Women for Action. “Our hope is that he will read the comments and consider them,” said Ann Goette of Appalachian Women for Action.

WASHINGTON – A bipartisan bill that would allow researchers to study medical marijuana’s effects passed in the House of Representatives on Wednesday. The Medical Marijuana Research Act is co-sponsored by Southwest Virginia Rep. Morgan Griffith. The bill, in its own words, would: “amend the Controlled Substances Act to make marijuana accessible for use by qualified marijuana researchers for medical purposes.”Griffith said he has advocated for medical marijuana in Congress since 1998. He believes the bill’s approval shows how much attitudes towards medical marijuana have changed since his first statement in support of it. The bill will now await a vote in the Senate.

ROANOKE, Va – A Congressman from southwest Virginia is taking part in a nationwide study looking at what happens after testing positive for COVID-19. Representative Morgan Griffith and 299 other people from across the country are taking part in a study conducted by the National Institutes of Health. Researchers are monitoring what happens after patients have recovered from the virus. Griffith said the study also gives him a new perspective on some of the legislation he passes. Griffith hopes that taking part in it will help provide some insight into health patterns of people who have had the virus.

As Griffith wraps up his tenth year in his congressional seat, he is setting new priorities focusing on the people in Virginia’s 9th District. The Republican incumbent will be on the ballot unopposed in Virginia’s 9th District this Election Day. One of Griffith’s top priorities, if re-elected, is addressing the communities in southwest Virginia dealing with drug addiction. Drug overdoses in Southwest Virginia are up 11% since the start of this year, according to the department of health.

ROANOKE, Va. – The world’s attention is on President Donald Trump’s health as he deals with COVID-19, but two political voices in Virginia have unique perspectives on the situation. Rep. Morgan Griffith, who represents southwest Virginia in Congress, was diagnosed with COVID-19 in July. He said he survived the virus without any lasting damage and is optimistic President Trump will also recover in full. “President Trump is just going to have to ride this thing through. “I think you’ll see in about 48 hours, President Trump will be back up and running," Griffith said.

The Supreme Court is scheduled to hear arguments in a GOP case seeking to overturn the health care law shortly after the election. In fact, Goeas argued that Trump’s belligerent performance during Tuesday’s debate did more to hurt his chances of recouping wayward Republicans and hesitant independents, a development that could hurt GOP Senate candidates in tight contests.

WASHINGTON DC, A Virginia Congressman is trying to make sure school districts get to decide when and how to reopen this fall. Morgan Griffith, who represents Virginias 9th Congressional District, has introduced a resolution to Congress encouraging governors to let school districts decide what they think is best. When the resolution was introduced Friday, Griffith said he was concerned Governor Northams initial guidelines for reopening schools would prevent many rural school districts from being able to reopen. He says the governor has since changed his position, but Griffith still believes Congress needs to send a message. We know youve got to be careful, but we think you ought to be able to do whats right in your community, Griffith said of school districts.

After the president gave his support Monday for a "Red Flag" law, others have joined in. But I think that's the common ground I think we could find," said Griffith. Mark Herring, attorney general of Virginia tweeted his frustration about red flag laws:"17 states have passed red flag laws to disarm dangerous people. And in last month's special session Republicans refused to even consider passing one in Virginia." Ralph Northam issued a statement calling for action after members of the General Assembly failed to pass gun legislation in the special session.
