On Tuesday, Laurel Galaszewski and her husband, Barry Turner, of Pilot, donated two bulletproof vests to the Montgomery County Sheriffโ€™s Office. Maxx, who is 2 years old, and Archin, who is 3 ยฝ years old, will receive the vests, which are made to stop 9mm rounds, as well as .357 Magnum bullets. The cost of both vests was $2,067.

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Va. - A man was arrested in Montgomery County on suspicion that he attacked another man with the handle end of a machete during an argument. Authorities received a call just after 6:30 p.m. regarding an assault in the 900 block of Jennelle Road, according to Montgomery County Sheriff's Office. The argument started when a 57-year-old man asked Tommy Hilton Sr, 53, to leave his property, according to the Sheriff's Office. The man was hit in the head with the handle of a machete, according to the Sheriff's Office. He was charged with unlawful wounding and is currently being held without bond in the Montgomery county jail.

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Va. - If you receive a strange call from someone claiming to be a deputy from the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office demanding thousands of dollars in Game Stop gift cards because you missed jury duty -- it's a scam. Authorities have issued a warning after someone reached out to the Sheriff's Office. The person told deputies that they received a call from a number that showed up as the Sheriff's Office on caller ID. The impersonator then reportedly asked for $2,000 in Game Stop gift cards and threatened the victim through voicemails and text messages. That's when the victim went to the Sheriff's Office and let an actual deputy talk to the suspect.

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Va. - The Montgomery County Sheriff's Office is warning seniors to watch out for a potential government imposter scam. The Federal Trade Commission has received reports of callers claiming to be from Medicare asking people for their Social Security numbers, Medicare numbers and other personal information in exchange for "free" DNA testing kits. Companies are targeting people at senior centers, housing complexes and other community locations to promote "free" genetic testing, cancer screenings or DNA testing. In this scam, the targeted seniors are told that these tests will be covered by Medicare. The FTC is reminding consumers that Medicare does not market DNA testing kits to the general public.

Tiffany Dawn White, 24, is charged with being an accessory to an escape attempt at the Montgomery County Jail. She is 5 feet 3 inches tall and weighs about 125 pounds. Authorities say she is known to frequent both the city of Radford and Giles County and previously has been seen driving a dark-colored BMW.
