The COVID-19 pandemic is canceling this year’s spring game for Virginia Tech, according to Virginia Tech Director of Athletics Whit Babcock. “Regrettably, given the current restrictions in place and out of concern for the health and well-being of our community, our student-athletes and our fans, we have made the decision to not have a spring football game,” Babcock said. “We realize this is disappointing for many and certainly for our football team, but we believe that it is the proper decision for the Virginia Tech community and the town of Blacksburg. “Lane Stadium was not the same without Hokie Nation last year,” said head coach Justin Fuente.

After a difficult year due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Class of 2021 Hokies will be able to graduate in Lane Stadium this year. Virginia Tech announced in a press release that the university is planning to have multiple graduation ceremonies in Lane Stadium and an online ceremony this spring. With more than 8,000 students planning to graduate, Virginia Tech said that having more than one graduation ceremony will allow the university to safely hold graduates and their families. Students will need to register for commencement events given that a limited number of guests will be allowed due to public health concerns. Virginia Tech has yet to make details final but will do so within the next few weeks.

After getting beat by Virginia for the first time in 15 years last season in Charlottesville, the Hokies reclaimed bragging rights on Saturday, earning a 33-15 win over the Cavaliers at Lane Stadium. BLACKSBURG, Va. – Last year’s 45-10 loss against Duke at Lane Stadium was a turning point for Virginia Tech. But nearly one year later, that game is still on the Hokies' minds as prepare for the Blue Devils on Saturday. “We remember everything about that Duke game from last year,” said redshirt junior guard Lecitus Smith said. The ground attack tallied 314 yards, and according to Smith, it was also proof that the offensive line is coming together. More notably, their defensive line only allows opponents 3.72 yards per carry.

NC State at Virginia tech is set to kick off at 8 p.m. from Lane Stadium.

BLACKSBURG, Va. – After being postponed, a new date has been set for the Commonwealth Cup. UVA will travel to Blacksburg to play at Lane Stadium on Saturday, Dec. 12.
