Fashions for Evergreens is an annual event that typically decks the halls of the Hotel Roanoke with uniquely-decorated trees. “Fashions for Evergreens has brought in more than $60,000 to this community to help benefit our neighbors who are in need. They’re adding a new feature this year called Fashions at Home where you can submit photos of your own holiday decor. Voters, as well as those who submit their own tree photos to Fashions at Home, will be eligible for raffle prizes from the Hotel Roanoke.

ROANOKE, Va. – New COVID-19 restrictions are now in effect across Virginia, limiting what people can do as we head into the holidays. ROANOKE, Va. – 10 News sat down with Roanoke City mayoral candidate David Bowers to discuss why he wants to serve the Star City once again. He served as Roanoke City’s mayor from 1992-2000 and again from 2008-2016. “I’ve had a great 16 years as mayor, but I’m excited about going back," said Bowers. “I got a lot of energy, a lot of fresh energy and a lot of new ideas," said Bowers. ROANOKE, Va. A popular local hotel is making some changes in response to the coronavirus. The meeting rooms in the Hotel Roanokes conference center have been designed to try to ensure social distancing. On Thursday, Visit Virginias Blue Ridge held its quarterly meeting in the hotel to witness first-hand the new social spacing protocols put in place as a result of COVID-19, according to a news release. Visit Virginias Blue Ridge is working to create a safe space for meetings and events as the state gradually reopens. Hotel Roanoke is also taking extra steps to keep hotel rooms clean.

ROANOKE, Va. A third student has been sentenced in last years theft of the Hokie Bird statue from the Hotel Roanoke. On Sept. 27, 2019, the statue was stolen from its base on the south side of the hotel. It was later found on the side of a road near Charlottesville later that day, according to police. Durbin is the third out of a trio of men involved in the incidents, all members of James Madison Universitys Sigma Nu Fraternity pledge class. Each student involved is also required to pay a third of the statues cost, $7,500 each.

Schools from around the area competed in a poster contest that used that theme to raise awareness of substance abuse. Organizers say they hope this opens a conversation so parents can talk about the dangers of substance abuse with their kids. About 300 people came out for the 29th annual Southwest Virginia Business Hall of Fame celebration. ROANOKE, Va. - Ballroom dancers from up and down the East Coast came to the Hotel Roanoke on Sunday for the Star Ball Dance Challenge. 29 dancers from different age groups and levels showed off their moves in front of three world-class judges. More than 100 people attended the Community Coalitions of Virginia statewide summit at the Hotel Roanoke on Wednesday. Amtrak representatives tell 10 News Roanoke's ridership is the highest of any individual line in the commonwealth. Breast cancer survivors are the largest group of cancer survivors in the U.S. at 3.8 million people, and this event helps celebrate their stories. The 43-year-old mother of five was diagnosed with stage 3 and then stage 4 breast cancer. "Speaking at this event is because of that promise, my promise was to do everything in power to make sure my children were never walk in my shoes to make sure my children don't face breast cancer," said Fink. By 2026, Komen's goal is to reduce breast cancer deaths by 50%.

ROANOKE, Va. - Local leaders from across Virginia finished a conference on Tuesday that focused on finding solutions to what they consider to be the biggest problems facing their communities. The Virginia Municipal League annual conference is designed to help local governments communicate and share ideas. Inside Hotel Roanoke, he laid out his goals for the future, focusing on improving education and workforce training. Roanoke Mayor Sherman Lea and others put their heads together and decided what they want to push lawmakers to change come the next legislative session, which begins in January. Roanoke last hosted the conference in 2014, according to Lea, who said it's been great to show off the Star City to the commonwealth.

ROANOKE, Va. - There's a new push Monday regarding concerns about black history. With the Virginia Municipal League conference on Tuesday in Roanoke, some groups want legislators to hear their message. Groups of protesters held signs on Monday in Roanoke on South Jefferson Street, outside the Virginia Tech Carilion Research Institute. Leading them was the group trying to buy the historic Dumas Center, to preserve black history on Henry Street. They said they'll be protesting outside Hotel Roanoke on Tuesday for the start of the legislative conference.

The 20th annual Virginia Statewide Neighborhood Conference is in full swing at the Hotel Roanoke. It's a place to collaborate and share ideas about what works best and where they can improve. Estelle H. McCadden, of Roanoke, started the conference in 2000 and never thought it would grow to be this large, traveling to different Virginia cities each year, but says it's a must because neighborhoods are the backbone of the state.
