Roanoke-Blacksburg Airport adds American Airlines flight to Dallas-Fort Worth

With flights to Dallas starting in June, the new direct flight will boost travel convenience and regional economic development opportunities.

ROANOKE, Va. – Roanoke-Blacksburg Airport is expanding its reach with a new direct flight out west.

Starting in June, American Airlines will offer nonstop service to Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport. This airport is a major hub for American Airlines and marks the furthest west destination now available from the Roanoke-Blacksburg Airport.

Airport officials said they have been fighting for a direct flight to Dallas for years and are excited about the new connection.

“Dallas Fort Worth has been our number one target for long before I got here,” said Mike Stewart, Executive Director of Roanoke-Blacksburg Regional Airport. “It opens up the entire West, much easier connectivity.”

The new connection represents a significant expansion for American Airlines, which is already the largest carrier at ROA with existing flights to Charlotte, Chicago and New York.

Airport and local officials believe the new connection will not only make travel more convenient for residents but could also help attract more businesses to the region.

“It’s important for tourism. It’s important for economic development, but really, it’s important to make sure that folks know this region matters,” said Eric Sichau, President and CEO of Roanoke Regional Chamber of Commerce.

The announcement is already generating excitement among local travelers. Kennedy Fewell, Miss Virginia Volunteer and Roanoke traveler, sees opportunities ahead.

“Dallas is a hot spot for fashion and everything else in between,” she said. “The sky’s the limit, so now I get to soar and soar to new locations that’s really going to be so beneficial for myself and my future.”

Tickets for the new Dallas flights will be available for purchase online starting Monday.
